Wives at the breakfasts

Mojacar chapter has for a long time welcomed, and even encouraged, the ladies to attend the chapter outreach breakfasts but until now the Torrevieja breakfasts have been for men only. A few wives came along to the Torrevieja breakfast in April 2012 to hear Gordon Burgess´ testimony and enjoyed it. The ladies sat on a table away from the men-folk and this seemed to work very well.

So the Torrevieja chapter executive have decided to throw open the outreach breakfasts to any wives who want to come along, and enjoy fellowship with other ladies over breakfast.

61 year old Derek Smith is father of two daughters and grandfather of three, and is very happy with life.

When he was 11, he attended a school-based church outreach and after attending a series of after-school meetings he was not convinced that God was real, so he rejected God, and anything to do with God.

Derek hated school and left at 15 to become an apprentice electrician. At first work was great, but at 19 he became discontented. He was in a dead-end relationship, and his friends were experimenting with drugs. There seemed to be no purpose in life. Derek drew up a wish-list for his life: a career in electronics, a new girlfriend, new friends, independence, and travel - a completely new life and a new beginning. Derek then joined the Royal Air Force.

He left the R.A.F in 1983 and started work with Marconi Communications, and settled with his family in Chelmsford, Essex - another new life, and new beginning. Derek was very content with his new life, and wanted nothing more.

Then a new church opened across the road from them, and his wife started going every Sunday morning with their daughters .............

David Bargh was brought up in working-class Lancashire in a Christian home. He went to college in London and married Joyce whilst still very young. David started out as self-employed at 26, and founded two family businesses which now employ 60 people. David and Joyce have been married for 47 years and are parents of three sons and grandparents of seven.

Torrevieja changes its venue

As some people have expressed a desire to try a different venue we have booked The Nautio Restaurant, in the International Marina, Playa del Acequión, Torrevieja for our next breakfast. The restaurant is a delightful setting and looks straight out onto the Marina itself. A bonus is that the Full English Breakfast, including tea or coffee will cost you just 4 euros It is in the part of the Marina at the northern edge of the Acequión beach. There is a large car park, for which you have to pay, or you can park in the streets nearby. If members approve of the new venue it will become our new "home".

Pioneering missionary to Spain speaks at Torrevieja Breakfast 28th April 2012

A real pioneer of the gospel, in days when it was dangerous to evangelise in Spain, Gordon Burgess, known to his Spanish friends as Guillermo, was converted from a non - Christian background in April 1955 while serving in the Navy. The Lord called him to Spain after he crossed the frontier from Gibraltar in January 1957. Gordon left the navy after 12 years service in 1958 and entered the service of The King. The Lord renewed his call, and with his wife Margaret and five year old son he drove to Almeria in 1961 and Spain has been his home ever since.

Margaret went to be with the Lord two years ago but Gordon continues steadfast in the calling God gave him 55 years ago. He is an accredited missionary of the British Assemblies of God and an accredited minister of the Spanish Asambleas de Dios. His ministry has been mainly church-planting and Bible School teaching and Gordon was largely responsible for the planting and fruition of the Assemblies of God in Spain.

Gordon has a wonderful story that you won´t want to miss. St. Patrick`s Day Breakfast in Mojacar 17th March

Married to Sue, Yorkshireman Dave Bray, father of two daughters, and grandfather of four under-fours made a Christian commitment when a 17 year old lad in his native Sheffield. However, he did not keep it up. But when things were not going too well for him God gave him a second chance after Dave had seen a vision.

Dave was a body-builder (he didn’t pump iron but built car bodies).He served a motor trader apprenticeship and studied to become a member of the Institute of Motor Industry, and eventually taught motor vehicle subjects at colleges in Yorkshire and East Sussex.

Dave loved Cars and he was into saloon car racing, and he helped to build a steam car to attempt the land speed record, which was aborted after they lost their sponsors.

A visiting African pastor prophesied over Dave that he would become an evangelist abroad, and this was confirmed by two other separate sources. Dave and Sue moved to Alicante province nine years ago, to talk to people on the streets about Jesus.

He now devotes his time to his evangelism, and plays the odd round of bowls and when time allows, loves to explore Spain.

Torrevieja Chapter`s February 2012 Breakfast

Torrevieja's first breakfast of the season will be on Saturday 18th February 2012 at their regular venue the Asturia's Restaurant, starting at 10.00 a.m.

Our after-breakfast speaker on this occasion will be Graham Taylor.

Although Graham´s parents had a faith the family never went to Church when he was growing up, except for births, weddings and funerals and he had no concept of what God is really like. His passion as a teenager was sport, but despite this he was quiet and shy off the field. Then he met the girl he would marry and all that changed......

Graham lives with his wife Sheila in Weybridge, Surrey and is a retired accountant. They have two children and three grandchildren. They own an apartment in Murcia region and attend Olive Branch Christian Fellowship, at Camposol, Mazarron, when in Spain.

During his career Graham worked for Tear Fund for a number of years as the accountant for Tearcraft.

He has been a Christian for 35 years and for the last 18 years was a member of a Pioneer church.

Mojacar Breakfast February 18th 2012

For Mojacar`s first breakfast of the 2012 season Roger Broomfield will share his life´s journey, During his working life in various avenues of the road and passenger transport industry Roger drove in 26 countries and over one and a half million miles. Roger and his wife Janet both hail from Bournemouth, Dorset, but moved to permanently live in Spain in 2004.

Roger was sent to Sunday school as a child and always believed in God, but had no relationship with Him. Even being amongst the last people to be taken alive from the sunken cross-channel ferry "The Herald of Free Enterprise" in 1987, having been trapped for six hours, did not cause him to turn to God.

Finally it was a very simple situation that opened his heart. The Lord used a message from a speaker, whom Roger could relate to and since then the Lord has worked in Roger and Janet's lives and done amazing things.

We may well give up on God, but He never gives up on us.
